Just a quick reminder of the many happenings at Lugano in May and June...
It is amazing how fast spring can change into winter. As much as I am looking forward to warmer weather and the growing season it offers, I have to admit that the spring skiing has been incredible!!!
Although it doesn't look like spring is on its way, we are not slowing down our spring menu! In fact, we will usher in the season with a special Easter menu!

After an eventful winter, it looks like spring is trying to peek through the cold ground. Just this week I saw the first sign of bulbs pushing through. This time of year is always exciting. Not only are we eagerly awaiting the spring baby lettuces and crops, but we are starting cooking classes. We are also continuing to host world renowned winemakers and their wines in our International Wine Dinner Series. By the way, mark your calendar (if you can believe it) for our NINE year anniversary celebration on June 17th with Margie Olson of Torii Mor in the Dundee Hills of the Willamette Valley.
Don't miss the final "Return from Italy" below...

Ciao!
2009 thus far has been kind to us at Lugano. After a festive holiday season of private parties and group functions on the Lugano Campus and off-site catering, we opened the year with new dining opportunities and they have been a lot of fun!
Buon Natale!
I hope this holiday greetings finds you well. As much as I love this time of year, it always passes by much too quickly. It is alarming to look at the calendar and see Christmas in one short week. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing many of you as you enjoy the season with family, friends and colleagues for a quiet dinner or with one of our many private parties in the Radda Room and The Loggia. It has also been a treat to cater your holiday functions around the valley, Park City area, and surrounding canyons.
Salve!
Wow... what a trip! Last month, Julie and I had the incredible opportunity to share our passion for Italy with our girls. At seventeen, when I first traveled to Italy with my family, I was awed with the sites of Lake Como, the structures of Florence, and the art along the Rhine River. But, more importantly to my life, I found myself inspired by the Italian kitchens. When it was time to attend college, I left my hometown of Newport Beach, California and ventured to the Italian-Swiss border to attend Franklin College in Lugäno , Switzerland .
As you are aware, I have a special place in my heart for Lugäno. It was there that I began to develop my deep respect for the Italian way of life including the cuisine, the vineyards, and more importantly the tempo of an Italian day. When I stay away too long, I feel a sense of longing to return. Although Julie and I have returned for restaurant cultivation, it was pretty remarkable to share Italy with our daughters!
Each year, I remember why the early Autumn months in Salt Lake are so outstanding. The weather has been perfect this year with calm sunny days and a few raindrops to highlight the many flowers that are still so abundant. The mild temperatures have also offered a long growing season for the locally grown organic produce.
We enjoyed seeing many friendly faces as we hosted the Utah Rivers Council on Thursday, September 25th. Executive Director Ted Wilson kicked-off the new Free the Flow campaign based on the reality that there is plenty of water for the future of Utah without building billion dollar dams and diversions. Taxpayer money can be saved and our beautiful rivers kept in their natural state if we release the water being hoarded by water speculators and from those who do not comply with the law of beneficial use. This is a worthy program that will benefit generations to come. For more information, please visit www.utahrivers.org or call (801) 486-4776.
I love this time of year... when abundant locally grown organic produce of all varieties is delivered right to Lugano's door, the weather is perfect to enjoy the outdoor patio, and the smell of autumn is in the evening air. It is also the time that the rich tastes of fresh tomatoes, root vegetables, mushrooms and squash are incorporated into our daily specials and menu items. Pumpkin ravioli is always a favorite and is finally here!!!
During Utah's growing season, most of our organic produce comes from Bell Organic Gardens of Draper. The season is longer than you would think, starting way back in very early spring and continuing late into autumn. David and Jill Bell started growing organic fruits and vegetables a decade ago when they found that many high-end grocers and restaurants in Salt Lake were shipping in organically grown products from around the world.
